Welcome to DISCUSSION!

Hi, everyone! Once a week, I'm going to give you a topic. All players need to do is give their opinions/stories/comments on said topic. There's nothing really formal about this, but you'll get cards for answering regardless. There's no requirement about how big or detailed of an answer you give, but try to avoid one word answers! (This is about talking, after all)

This week's topic is SOUNDTRACKS.

A question you could answer (but are not limited/required to) is Who is your favourite composer?

You'll get 2 regular cards and 1 puzzle card for commenting. Prizes will be distributed throughout the week and this game ends on Tuesday, September 9th.

WHY THIS.....................I love yuki kajiura's soundtracks! I don't even know where to begin because everything she makes is godly tbh. Wtf i can't choose between Revo and Kajiura they're both good even tho their styles are completely different. Kara no Kyoukai and Xenosaga osts are so great man.

you totally saw this coming right

Uhh... darn... I used to REALLY like this stuff but have since kinda grown out of it...

I guess... Maaya Sakamoto was one I liked. ^^ Though Yuki Kajiura came a close second. I'm sure there were others, the sound track for Ghost in the Shell was pretty awesome...

I'm going to second Yuki Kajiura, but I have to admit on a rewatch of Utena, I really liked all the songs they played in the duel: choral works plus the 'surreal but, hey, wait... that kind of fits'.

I will admit that I bought the Vision of Escaflowne Movie special set just for the soundtrack that was bundled into it. Yoko Kanno and Hajime Mizoguchi composed and produced the movie's musical themes and backgrounds. It's just such amazing music.

i think i like a lot of mainstream composers/soundtracks! i don't know who the composers are but i like the ace attorney ost... shoji meguro for the smt/personas... UMINEKO HAS ALL OF THE BEST MUSIC and i really like... the panty & stocking ost (if you think i'm just referring to the pole dancing stripper songs you would be right)

i also like a lot of other random tracks even though i haven't listened to THE WHOLE SOUNDTRACK or anything. just stuff that struck me as super catchy when i was watching the anime like this track from drrr!!, DISS WERLD IST GRUESOME from klk, another jazzy track from kampfer and sound of destiny from white album. i'm sure there's more but this is all i can remember right now

oh god I LOVE soundtracks.........if i had to specifically name a composer, I'll have to go with Yuki Kajiura

My favorite OSTS overall though are fma (2003), puella magi madoka magica, umineko, gatchaman crowds and princess tutu! there's probably a whole lot individual tracks i love too but i'm having brainfarts atm

YUKI KAJIURA WITHOUT A FUCKING DOUBT i only scream this... all the time i'm sorry i'm an embarrassment. my raging boner for kara no kyoukai makes it obvious enough but how could i not. i really wish she did more video game osts tbh because i would kill for another track like godsibb.

SPEAKING OF VIDEO GAMES THUOGH i love keiichi okabe/monaca and emi evans! the nier ost is absolutely amazing, as is drakengard 3's although it's quite different.

back to anime though thanks to nagi no asukara i'm really hoping we get to hear yoshiaki dewa compose most soundtracks! nagiasu's entire ost was more or less gorgeous but there were a lot of particularly stellar tracks and use of acoustic guitar. i'm really biased for acoustic guitar haha.

god okay i could go on all day but this is embarrassing enough i'll stop.

I... DON'T HAVE ANY...

This answer is really boring but while I love music, I don't really pay attention to composers or soundtracks or anything like that. If I like a song, I like a song! And that's... about it...

sob!

My favorite sountracks are (get ready for it) Yugioh ones! /_\ I love them so much, I made a tumblr to just upload them for everyone. They are some of the few songs I can keep on a playlist and never grow bored of! I also really like random songs from random OST though! I haven't really seen Wolf's Rain, but Kanou Yoko did really beautiful music for it! I ended up buying both CDs just for that! Same for the Biohazard and Silent Hill Music! Silent Hill 2 has really pretty songs that, when you play classical/piano, it sounds really pretty! While Silent Hill 3 has really good creepy songs~ Though, When people think of Silent Hill and Biohazard music, I guess they think of creepy sounds. (And I really like the music to Galerains and Final Fantasy /_\ In short I REALLY just like Video game Background Music!)

Some songs I like: 01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06

TAKU IWASAKI because the gurren lagann soundtrack is effing BOSS.

I would like to present libera me from hell, a song that gives me really good vibes but i think is about walking through the desert?, pump up music, and of course ROW ROW FIGHT THE POWA.

I also like Satoru Kousaki, who is the composer for Haruhi Suzumiya. Itsumo no Fuukei is probably the most recognizable piece I can think of. Even though he didn't compose it, I'm also huge fan of the Gymnopedies movements that were used in Disappearance.

speaking of classical music, ouran had a lot of grand instrumental background music that I love!

for video games, my favorites are the Kingdom Hearts soundtracks by Yoko Shimomura, especially every single version of Dearly Beloved. And the Traverse Town music.

I had a lot more opinions on this than I thought....

I pay more attention to soundtracks than to composers, but Yuki Kajiura is definitely on that list, as is Yoko Shimomura, Nobuo Uematsu, and Yasunori Mitsuda.

But, list of game soundtracks I desperately adore:

Chrono Trigger; Legend of Mana; Final Fantasy VI; Bravely Default; Okami; Ace Attorney (especially when they did the orchestral versions).

i don't have a favourite composer per se but there's some series i love the shit out of the soundtracks of... 07th expansion's stuff is always great (except rose gun days we don't talk about rose gun days) and umineko and higanbana have g r e a t music, i love every track.. higurashi too i guess but the original vn's soundtrack for that is sort of limited ahaha

and the best soundtrack from a show not part of a series is definitely shiki.. holy shit, that ost just blew me away, it fits so well with the series but is also really nice to listen to outside of it.. IDEK WHO THE COMPOSER WAS BUT I GUESS THEY'RE MY FAVOURITE NOW i'm still listening to that shit and i think the anime aired in what.. 2010.. i feel old

So this game just came out right

Professor Layton vs. Ace Attorney

Mostly it's a blend of the soundtracks from both series (which I already loved, particularly the live/orchestral versions of the Layton game songs) but there is some spectacular new musical material in there too, particularly triumphant victory bits that really get you into the game and the emotion of the moment. I can't link any yet because I'm not done with the game and I'm afraid I'd run into spoilers trying to look for them :(

I ALSO have a big thing for anime and game openings; not understanding the majority of the lyrics at first makes it easier to feel the song (either with the animation or alone on my ipod) and games in particular tend to have intense, musically colorful, "good for fast driving" music that really gets my brain going on an imagination front. I love songs/soundtracks that remind you that a legendary undertaking is in progress and if you walked around while listening to them even your walk would feel more badass.

I don't... really pay any attention to the OST in most of the stuff I watch/play. And the only one I do like isn't from animanga at all, it's from Guild Wars 2. Though if that counts this is a fantastic song.

fav ost's are MOTHER 3, earthbound, and nieR, based on the fact i can never ever get tired of listening to anything from them. the MOTHER series always has such variety with their music, you can go from quirky to to heartbreaking in a second. nieR is just amazingly beautiful and heartrending.

i lied there's more - okami and bravely default. both for the same reasons as nieR - tiz' theme ruins me. always. as does reset from okami.

How am I supposed to pick just one? Nobuo Uematsu is a classic of course, and I also love Masashi Hamauzi (collabed on FFX, Dirge of Cerberus, FFXIII trilogy. Nujabes, for sure-- Samurai Champloo is my favorite anime and with it comes my favorite soundtrack. I always listen to it when I need to relax. I am a huuuge geek when it comes to video game music and anime music, especially the former! Final Fantasy music is what inspired me to want to learn how to play the piano.

I get bored just listening to instrumentals, really. My favorite OST, to be honest, is from Prince of Tennis. It's not even for the opening and ending themes, it's for the character songs! If you pick the right characters, anyway...some characters don't have many tracks available due to lack of popularity or some other reason (which is disappointing because some characters have more tracks when their seiyuu are horrid at singing, although it was rare in this series).

Well, I don't have a favourite composer.. ;;
And I don't usually pay attention to soundtracks but I like to listen to Atelier ost! The tracks are really cute and calming and make me feel asleep a lot easier! :")

predictably, i like shoji meguro (most of all when he's working with toshiko tasaki who did earlier megaten/persona, now he works a lot with atsushi kitajoh and ryota koduka and i think the shift into OOOOH YEAH, DA DA DA, DA DA DAAAAAA, BABY BABY comes from those partnerships lmao). i'm more of a video games music than anime music person but fate/zero had some of my favorite OPs and EDs.

shoji meguro and yuki kajiura are my favourites, off the top of my head! p3 and madoka magica have amazing soundtracks that i have constantly on my ipod. special props to masafumi takada, too - the DR + SDR2 soundtrack is hit-and-miss, but mostly hits in my opinion.

and shout-out to tomoya tomita for composing kirby's epic yarn aka my favourite ost of all time + jun ishikawa for kirby music in general uwu

...I just really want the K movie ost right now \o/

But I've been looping FFXIV's and Log Horizon's; they're both really good and I use love Xenosaga's too.

Ooh I don't pay attention to soundtracks that much... Ouran's is nice to listen to, though! And K's is actually pretty good. the only thing i can like about it without shame

Aaaaand the Kingdom Hearts OST will always have a special place in my heart, of course.

ahh I enjoy a lot of soundtracks, hmmm... Yoko Kanno's work, for sure! (That Wolf's Rain soundtrack /sob) And pretty much any composer who works for Square Enix, haha, I love the Final Fantasy (esp 8 and 12) and Kingdom Hearts soundtracks.

Also whoever did the Adolescence of Utena OST because I like it a looot, I watched the movie years ago and found the OST for cheap in some bargain bin and listened to it NONSTOP for ages.
