( throwback thursday 06 )

It looks like Inuyasha is causing some trouble for poor Ranma... Well, while they get it sorted out, can you help me? I'm thinking of this old series but I can't remember its name...

Throwback Thursday (or #tbt) commemorates the anime, manga, and games of yore. (Yore = original debut in 2001 or earlier.) Based on the provided clue, can you tell me the title of what I'm thinking of and its original Japanese release year? I'll give you 3 random single cards for your trouble!
This game only recently made it to the West despite being close to twenty years old. The setting is a Japanese city transformed into a model city for the future that has access to a virtual world, developed by a "benevolent" corporation. The protagonist belongs to a group of amateur hackers. When demons appear in the virtual world, the hackers use their newfound demon summoning skills to launch an investigation. Turns out the virtual world isn't as great as it seems, and is just a clever vehicle for stealing people's souls...

This round will end September 4th at 6:00PM EST. Closed!

Last round's answer: Slam Dunk released in 1990 (or 1993, for the anime).

I think this is Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers, released November 13, 1997.
