Welcome to DISCUSSION!

Hi, everyone! Once a week, I'm going to give you a topic. All players need to do is give their opinions/stories/comments on said topic. There's nothing really formal about this, but you'll get cards for answering regardless. There's no requirement about how big or detailed of an answer you give, but try to avoid one word answers! (This is about talking, after all)

This week's topic is HOLIDAY MUSIC.

A question you could answer (but are not limited/required to) is Do you have a favourite Christmas song? (Though of course, other holidays are also welcome!)

You'll get 2 regular cards and 1 puzzle card for commenting. Prizes will be distributed throughout the week and this game ends on Tuesday, December 23rd.

yes absolutely, mariah carey's "all i want for christmas is you"

a friend of mine passed down the tradition of blasting it during the holidays though the past year it was replaced with "let it go" from frozen but now i'm back to mariah carey

i also like "you're a mean one mr. grinch" because i was on TV once singing it so it's a good memory (speaking of singing christmas songs i like christmas caroling too and used to do it when i was a girl scout)

all my favorite christmas songs are parodies..... like almost every song from that community episode mocking glee and this one song from key & peele. WAIT i also like jingle bell rock because well, duh.

ironically i also like the songs they make fun of... so "santa baby" and "baby, it's cold outside" (edits so i can link the jgl version). but i also really love winter wonderland by peggy lee and last christmas by wham!

I love Valentine's Day, and the Fourth of July,
I'm a little bit sad when Halloween has gone by
I'm thankful Thanksgiving comes around in the fall,
But I've always loved Christmas the best of them all!

I don't think 8 lines at the beginning of my favorite Christmas movie counts as a song, but it might as well. That mini-song makes me think of Christmastime at my house.

Christmas, Bah, Bug and Hum! is another great one. God, I love Olive the Other Reindeer...

i really like modern covers of old christmas songs, like the songs you hear at the mall during the holidays. i never know who sings them bc they all sound the same but damn i love 'em. my favorite is carol of the bells.

chanukah starts at sundown today (the 16th) so happy chanukah! there's a fun song about how mrs. maccabeus' latkes saved the day but i can't find it on youtube so here are the lyrics (it's sung to the tune of oh chanukah oh chanukah): http://scheinerman.net/judaism/chanukah/sill-songs.html

i'm not a huge fan of christmas songs in particular. it's not that i dislike them or anything, but i care more about the mood they set rather than the song itself haha. they're perfect for getting into the christmas-y mood, but aside from that i don't pay attention to them... the one exception is carol of the bells, although i don't like versions with actual singing in them LMAO. this is probably my favorite version of it. it's a fun piece to play, but this guy blows it out of the park.

No. I hate Christmas music. Because it is EVERYWHERE. Over and over and over and over and OVER again.

Can't stand it. ^^; Guess I'm a bit of a grinch.

Super relevant to anime-themed tcgs I guess: There are two (2!!) Sailor Moon Christmas albums and my mother loves them. So our Christmases have been the house full of Christmas songs in Japanese sung by the Sailor Soldiers.

Of those CDs, my favourites are Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer (because I learned the lyrics in a high school Japanese class), When The Saints Go Marching In (I never thought of it as a Christmas song before these albums), Koibito ga Santa Claus... heck. All of them are really cute. What an adorable spin on Christmas classics.

Thank you very much! Merry Christmas : >

I have two! "Hark the Herald Angels Sing" is my favorite of the Christmas hymn music choices, and "Let It Snow!" is my favorite Christmas song overall! In general I love the themes of welcoming and family and love that pop up in Christmas/holiday music of all stripes.

The other day we saw real actual carolers walking through my grandma's neighborhood and I was so shocked in a good way, and also I'm a Christmas sap so I might have cried just a little bit. I wish caroling was a thing more people did more often.

HALLOWEEN MUSIC IS THE BEST i love me some halloween jams. The only winter holiday music I really get hype about is You're a Mean One, Mr. Grinch that's an all year jam for me, and Wonder Girls Yenny singing Last Christmas.

I like Christmas Bells from the musical RENT. It isn't really a Christmas song but it mentions the holidays so w/e. I like to try to sing all of the parts of it at one time which results in a very interesting experience on my end.

It's also tradition for me to watch Nightmare Before Christmas and I'm a big fan of Fall Out Boy's version of What's This?

For more traditional Christmas stuff, so much Michael Buble. I would be content listening to only him for the holidays. His voice is so perfect for Christmas music.

I can take or leave Christmas music, honestly. Normally I don't hear it that often anyway, since I don't listen to the radio, and since I'm a homebody 80% of the time I'm not really exposed to it much either. Nor do I really go looking for Christmas music much.

That said, I do enjoy the Glee Christmas OST, Michael Buble's Christmas album, and since I'm an old lady and remember it coming out so darn well... the Nsync Christmas album. The only downside is that depending on my mood, a lot of Christmas songs can depress the hell out of me. A lot of them are meant for couples, and if I'm in the wrong mood I can only just remind myself that I've been single every year of my life on Christmas. >>;

I'm pretty neutral to Christmas music, but there are a few songs that have a special place in my heart because of what I associate with them.

"Baby, It's Cold Outside" and "Carol of the Bells" because I have fond memories of singing it in choir in high school.

...and "Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy" because a certain creepy partridge doctor is one of my characters. Ho ho ho.

ok... please don't laugh omg
i don't really like holiday music in general BUT i used to be crazy about justin bieber's christmas album that he made however many years back because like. shit. this guy sucks but why are these songs about trees and drums so good? maybe because of the modern twist and beats he added to them. nevertheless...

My favorite Christmas song growing up was Christina Aguilera's This Year. I actually just love that entire CD in general. But really besides that cd, all of my favorite Christmas songs come from claymation Christmas movies and the grinch. Including, but not limited to, the snow/heat miser songs and Blue Christmas from The Year without a Santa Claus, Put One Foot in Front of the Other from Santa Claus is Coming to Town, We're a Couple of Misfits and Jingle Jingle Jingle from Rudolph, and finally Where are You Christmas and You're a Mean one Mr. Grinch from the Jim Carrey, How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

My favourite Christmas song is Feed The World (Do they Know it's Christmas) by Band Aid - specifically the 1984 version. I find the line "well tonight thank god it's them instead of you" so powerful and it always gives me shivers. I'm mostly drawn to it because it just makes me really thankful for what I have and remember that Christmas is about giving back.

I really dislike the remade versions, especially the recent Ebola one.

[personal profile] kumoi 2015-01-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
i looked up the lyrics to the ebola one and that's so awful omw...

To be honest, I'm not big on holiday music. I'll admit that some of it is catchy but I never got into it because of the fact that there aren't too many occasions where listening to it would be appropriate.

[personal profile] kumoi 2015-01-14 01:02 am (UTC)(link)
i don't listen to it much either tbh
