Welcome to DISCUSSION!

Hi, everyone! Once a week, I'm going to give you a topic. All players need to do is give their opinions/stories/comments on said topic. There's nothing really formal about this, but you'll get cards for answering regardless. There's no requirement about how big or detailed of an answer you give, but try to avoid one word answers! (This is about talking, after all)

This week's topic is LIGHT NOVELS.

A question you could answer (but are not limited/required to) is what is your favourite light novel?

You'll get 2 regular cards and 1 puzzle card for commenting. Prizes will be distributed throughout the week and this game ends on Tuesday, July 29th at 11:59 MST.

I won't be around tomorrow as far as I know, so you're getting a few free hours.

i've only read one light novel in my life LMFAO i'm ashamed
but it was called "under the faraway sky" and it was an fma light novel
it went something like... it was only a year after ed and al left and ed comes down with a fever and in the town the stop at, they run into an old friend and ed has to watch his friend make his dreams come true while ed is there sick and is like my mom is deeeeaaaad
there's also a flashback where ed calls winry a crybaby and she literally punches him right in the mouth, i was happy

uh ok i think i talked enough oops edit: oh my god i said so much more than the two people above me weeps

I have not read any light novels, but there are two series I wish I could read: Baccano! and Kino's Journey. I know there are translations drifting around the internet of at least some of each, but it'd be nice to have a whole officially translated set, you know?

I don't read light novels (I know, I'm sad.) But I would love to read Kyou Kara Maou because of reasons. Other than that's the only light novel I can think of on the top of my head. Maybe I'll read light novels when I'm not floundering and going, "I can't even read the title!" (AKA, when I become decent in Japanese.

....... I don't read light novels, sob. I'm a manga person who occasionally dabbles in anime 8(

I did read the Kagepro ones though! Or what's translated of them. So I suppose they are my favorite by default, lmao.

The Disappearance of Haruhi Suzumiya. I have a huge soft spot for the whole Haruhi series (...and that's the only light novel series that I've actually read and not just watched the anime of) but that one is my absolute favorite.

because of kyon questioning what he wants and alternate universes and the return of asakura and shy yuki and I could literally talk about this all day.

I'm not much of a light novel person, and by that I mean...I've never read one. I much prefer manga, and sometimes anime when it doesn't have a manga. But if I ever do get into the light novel scene, I really want to read the Ookami-san series because I loved the anime.

Kara no Kyoukai is the only light novel I've read in its entirety, and I loved it to death LMAO. I have a lot of Baccano! translations saved so I should really get to reading those actually...

i don't read light novels whoops. i dont know how to read them or they aren't translated anywhere online. my attention span for reading novels online is also really short, i would rather read the book in my hands instead of on a screen. i think the last one i read was durarara? i would like to read baccano too at some point.

There've been several light novels published of some of my favorite stuff, but I've never read any of them. Either I wasn't interested in it, or couldn't find the ones I was interested in. But I'm just really picky when it comes to what kinds of books I like to read, which I guess includes light novels.

like everyone else i don't really read light novels but i have finished two: durarara!! (or what's available of it) and fate/zero (and what is available of all the other fate/spin-offs). i also read the first two toaru novels and tried to start baccano! i don't really have a favorite among them because they're all quite good and i would recommend them for anyone who wants to start reading light novels. they're fairly unique in terms of writing style and the way plot works is very interesting especially in drrr (finding out characters play a much larger role than introduced) and toaru (subverting its own plots). i'd only recommend f/z if you haven't seen the anime since the anime follows very closely to the novels.

but yeah generally i don't... really read them since they're not much available though i'd like to read more!

I haven't really read light novels except a very small part of the Slayers ones. I really want to go back and finish all of those one day! I'd also really like to read Fate/Zero, Kara no Kyoukai and maybe a few other things one day!

I like light novels! My favorite is the Monogatari series, which I wish there were more translations of. It's funny...!

I also like Boku wa Tomodachi ga Sukunai or Haganai, but it's like, a trashy kind of light novel people lap up for the fanservicey art HAHA I unironically love it, though, even if the translations aren't the best early on...

I wanna read past the first chapter of Toaru but I feel like it'd work better if I just watched the anime.

In all fairness I don't think I know what a Light Novel is. What's the difference between that and Manga? Is it the same just different wording?

Regardless, I don't think I've read any. ^^ I'd always enjoyed watching anime rather than reading it, even though at the time I LOVED to read! I guess I was just rather fussy. These days it's just not something that interests me, sadly. I'm sure I'm missing out on something wonderful but... Oh well~ More for other people to enjoy I think!

Fate/Zero is definitely up there, but I own the .hack//G.U. light novels and I really love them, too. I really need to read the Kagepro ones at some point, too, and Kara no Kyoukai.

i have sadly not read any light novels orz i see so many of them that i want to read (no game no life, anyone?) but the laziness i feel after a long day of work, continuing education, list of other excuses, i just don't have the energy to read light novels heh.

UM... I'm honestly not sure what a light novel is. I know what a Novel is, but that term I'm not familiar with. I actually don't read much as I used to. I like to read classic literature, but its mainly to pass the time, and its easy to research stuff if I need to. ;; But, since this is an anime/manga site, its probably not that type Novel

[personal profile] yuugiri 2014-07-23 06:31 am (UTC)(link)
They're short books (usually under 200 pages) with a few illustrations here and there in the volume. They can span a variety of genres, but nowadays a lot of them are centered around romcom and/or harem, typically with some kinda fantasy setting.

I don't really have a favourite! I have a lot I want to read but either get lazy to look for translations or (lazy to) figure out their Chinese names so I can read them in Chinese.

I have a lot I want to read though, like Ghost Hunt, the Code Geass novels, Kaminai, etc.

It's easier to read the manga I find :(

I mostly just read light novels when they're the originals of series I've seen.. LMFAO so in that case I'd have to say probably either the Kara no Kyoukai or the Bakemonogatari ones, if not just since they're both so freaking unique to their respective writers (read: weird as hell) I KNOW YOU APPRECIATE BAKEMONOS TOO KATY YOU KNOW MY FEELINGS..

I've only ever read some of the Baccano! light novels lmao so I guess those are my favorites. I didn't finish all of them though, some I just skimmed. I think I still have the translations saved somewhere, I should finish the ones I didn't read...

ooooomg wait holy crap I've also read the Only the Ring Finger Knows novels bc I'm trash and I own like 3 of them from my high school days I'm laughing at myself omg I forgot about those. I think this calls for a reread now.
