discussion 01

Welcome to DISCUSSION!

Hi, everyone! Once a week, I'm going to give you a topic. All players need to do is give their opinions/stories/comments on said topic. There's nothing really formal about this, but you'll get cards for answering regardless. There's no requirement about how big or detailed of an answer you give, but try to avoid one word answers! (This is about talking, after all)

This week's topic is LIGHT NOVELS.

A question you could answer (but are not limited/required to) is what is your favourite light novel?

You'll get 2 regular cards and 1 puzzle card for commenting. Prizes will be distributed throughout the week and this game ends on Tuesday, July 29th at 11:59 MST.

I won't be around tomorrow as far as I know, so you're getting a few free hours.

I haven't read any in a while, but I'm a fan of Slayers and Spice and Wolf. I also liked the Crest of the Stars novels and wished they'd translate Banner of the Stars.

There might be translations floating around...

as someone said above, i only read a couple of the baccano! but funny enough i never got around to the anime which i should seriously be doing. it's a little harder to find than manga is, so i never really devoted the time to reading them, but this post just kinda inspired me to start SO

i... haven't read too many light novels so far LMFAO... the first ones i read were the haruhi series, and those are pretty good. i also read one of the death note spinoff novels (but never finished it, oops) but i remember it being cool as well.

but since it's my main fandom right now, the kagerou daze novels are probably my favourite. some of the translations are far and few between because they're done by fans, so i'm looking forward to seeing them in 2015 when the yen press versions come out!

Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano! Baccano!

I mean, uh.....I'm just a bit of a fan of the novels...downloaded them all a while ago too. TwT I've read up to Crack Flag (outside of one untranslated one) and I am not emotionally prepared to read the rest, sob. I also read some of DRRR but it doesn't quite catch me as much as the other works.

My plan is to eventually read VAMP!! which is also done by Narita lmao since that's all translated and finished.

Never read one, don't really plan to read one.
xD

I hear they're excellent source material though.

I'm one of the 500 people who don't read light novels usually, mainly because I don't like relying on fan translations since they're hard to deal with a lot of the time imo. But I did read a lot of DRRR's back in the day, and I loved what I read!

From the few light novels I've read, I guess Fate/Zero and Baccano! are my favourite ones!

I think I've only ever read one series and that was the Haruhi series, which I quite enjoyed.

I know I started a handful, especially ones that had animes (Baccano!, No.6, Drrr!!, ...), but I never read them completely.

But the only ones I really ever finished completely and had even once owned were all BL light novels LMAO sjghfsjdfhgdg Like "Only the Ring Finger Knows" series..... I can't remember the other titles because they weren't really worth remembering.

I also have about 3 novels of Hyouka, all in Japanese, so I'm reading them realllyy reallllyyy slowly.... orz

I don't know enough light novels to have a fave in all honesty...

as much as i enjoy light novels, i never really finish them LMFAO i suck... my favorite LN series is full metal panic tho IF I FINISH ANYTHING IT WILL BE THAT ONE... i love baccano too, kara no kyoukai is good, and the bakemonogatari. fate/zero is great too. i have an easier time finishing visual novels tbh...

the zaregoto series! anything by NISIOISIN is a favourite but i haven't read anything but half of the zaregoto series, and i watched katanagatari, so. yes. i'm limited to the translated stuff 8') i need to learn me some moonrunes.

my entire card page is designed around zerozaki hitoshiki, so we all know my favourite zaregoto character too.

Toaru Majutsu no Index, mainly because it's the only one I do read LMAO. Though I'm... really behind. I need to read the WWIII arc and New Testament.

Looking forward to the official North America release this winter, though!

I don't read that many novels, though I'm a pretty big fan of the Baccano! novels (I will forever dream of the day that and Durarara!! get official translation.) I've also been itching into getting into Kino's Journey, but I have yet to actually be able to get a copy of the first novel.

i don't have a favourite light novel! or rather, i don't think i've read enough to really decide. of the ones i read though, i think it'd be kyoukai no kanata! awful purple prose (that lends itself to most light novels out there, really) aside, i just found the characterization a lot more enjoyable there.

at first i was like, "but i don't read light novels", but then i remembered that i've read a grand total of one! i read the fate/strange fake and loved the hell out of it... i wish it were longer though, i felt very bamboozled by the end of it Q_Q 99 questions and not a single answer

although i think i might try reading the legend of legendary heroes series since my friend translates the light novels! but down that path lie cannibals and suffering...

So does it count if I say novels I haven't read because I like the anime adaptation? I actually don't think the Monogatari novels are light novels ANYWAY, so I guess I'll just go with The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya! Since... I own them all. I've still only read the first one though because I am terrible.
