Welcome to DISCUSSION!

Hi, everyone! Once a week, I'm going to give you a topic. All players need to do is give their opinions/stories/comments on said topic. There's nothing really formal about this, but you'll get cards for answering regardless. There's no requirement about how big or detailed of an answer you give, but try to avoid one word answers! (This is about talking, after all)

This week's topic is ANIME OPENINGS.

A question you could answer (but are not limited/required to) is which OP is your favourite? Feel free to link us to YouTube videos of your favourites! ...Or ones that you think are just worth a watch for whatever reason.

You'll get 2 regular cards and 1 puzzle card for commenting. Prizes will be distributed throughout the week and this game ends on Tuesday, August 5th at 11:59 MST.

I feel like such a dweeb answering with the same answer twice in a row, but Baccano! really does have one of my all time favorite openings. Everything about it is just perfect. I'm a pretty big fan of the ops for Mononoke and Darker Than Black too, though.

this is not my favorite anime opening but i do have a story about it
anyone is free to comment on it b/c this is a disaster

inuyasha - grip!

when my dad and stepmom got married i........around that time i was still in love with inuyasha. deeply in love.
i wore an inuyasha shirt almost every day (two sizes too big and black), was dead set on collecting every manga volume and...sung every song.
which is what i did at their wedding.
i gathered everyone into the huge living room my aunt has (the wedding took place at her house) and announced i was going to sing a song in japanese for them. from inuyasha.
i had a microphone and everything and I SANG THIS SONG TO A HUNDRED-SOMETHING PEOPLE and probably badly, with the op playing on screen in the background and everything

back then i must have been so proud of myself but now it's like an old nightmare

(this is probably my favorite anime opening tho)

Obviously I have a fondness for the old Sailor Moon openings... THIS STILL GETS ME EVEN THOUGH I'M NOT FOURTEEN ANYMORE... sings along like a proud nerd

Although openings with a lot of other random languages crack me up too.. like .hack's HOW COME I MUST KNOW WHERE OBSESSION NEEDS TO GO (??? well, okay singer) or Umineko's randomass Italian that actually doesn't sound half bad (I think.. I'm not Italian...) or Mirai Nikki's German. Somehow it's especially funny with German idek why.

I'VE... done this question before so i'll resist the urge to copy and paste. let's see if i can remember what ops i've recently come to love.
- i know my new favorite op is definitely the one for space dandy . i don't even go here tho
- um... i love the anohana op because that anime is just great in general even though lol... fucking yukiatsu
- the second darker than black op is probably my favorite? and reminds me that i should watch the second season in case i want to change my mind about that
- we don't talk about the kuroshitsuji anime or... kuroshit in general, but i have to admit i find the op for the second season extremely catchy
- cheating because it's not an op but special mention to this song from jormungand simply for "her name is koko, she is loco, i said "oh no"" which is the greatest thing to exist in this world fight me

SHINGEKI NO KYOJIN'S FIRST OP!!!! idec if that was the obvious easy answer, that opening was great

although i'll also echo fumika in saying that darker than black's first op is damn good, too. i'll never get tired of hearing it [cryingeagle] it's definitely one of my favorites.

I might be alone in this... But I always loved Yami no Matsuei's opening song Eden. ^^ And Outlaw Star's opening Through The Night. Ah... so many memories...

I kind of like older anime. So these songs hold so many awesome memories for me! The Gundam Wing OP's, Evengelion's themes.... .Hack/ Had some wonderful songs! And Inuyasha! But those two are two of my all time faves! ^^ I had them both on my playlist for... YEARS!

My ultimate favorite will always be Rewrite (Fullmetal Alchemist OP4) because 1) the song is catchy 2) the animation is epic 3) it has a good sense of rhythm between the song and the animation 4) it's Asian Kung-Fu Generation cries

ALSO!!!!!!!! YES AOEX!!!!!!! i have to shriek a bit because aoex's op and ed made me happier than anything because the ed was by 2pm and they danced in it just like 2pm did in the mv and my friend (who doesn't even anime) even watched the first cour with me and ENDED UP LOVING IT so in general the aoex anime (in the beginning) is just a good memory to me

I always link the Baccano! opening when talking about OPs but so does everyone else so this time let's go with the Princess Jellyfish OP! I just watched the anime a few days ago and I'm super loving the OP because the song's so cute and catchy and the opening sequences is adorable and full of pop culture references. it's just a really fun OP.

ALSO I have to talk about the Wolf's Rain OP. it's not bad BUT the guy going "straaaaay" in that raspy voice all of a sudden right at the beginning gets me every time omg the amount of times this song has just suddenly started (either in my itunes or when I'm watching the anime) and startled me. good lord.

Even though I didn't really enjoy Mekaucity Actors as anime, the opening was FLAWLESS and I love Jin's music a lot so I obviously, Daze ended up on my iTunes
Ao Haru Ride's opening - The World Has Fallen In Love - a song by Honeyworks!! Their works always are so cute...

I won't say I have a favourite, but the tune did stick in my head for a while.

OH MAN I LOVE SO MANY ANIME OPENINGS it's really hard to pick...

For animation+song I really love Kyousougiga's and Tokyo Majin's openings... Okay maybe not animation specifically with Tokyo Majin but the direction?! IDK HOW TO EXPLAIN IT EXACTLY but the way the song fits with what's shown makes me wheeze a lot.

For actual songs I love Rinne no Lagrange's TRY UNITE and Dantalian no Shoka's Cras numquam scire just to name a few....

While I like a lot of opening songs, PlanetES has one of my favorite openings. It's an anime set where travel to orbit has become common enough that 'astronaut' is just a job (though later parts of the series both touch on where the frontiers are, as well as economic themes and the whole series is about human themes of connection), and starts with a mix of character shots and pictures of the history of space.

The opening also goes through minor changes to do things like add minor characters or change their clothing. I think there's a period where it changes every episode.

Oh man, anime openings are my total Thing so it's really hard to choose a favorite, but if I had to-- even though I'm really not into SNK anymore, you can't deny it had the best opening of the year.

Though I'll always be biased to Linked Horizon ahehehe

I feel like I'm possibly stealing Rose's answer, but Cowboy Bebop definitely has my favorite OP. Love this anime and this opening somehow always manages to get me hyped to watch this anime.
And Stand Alone Complex holds a special place in my heart. I remember thinking this opening was so beautiful as a kid.
Omg I'm so stupid! How could I forget the Samurai Champloo OP...
Special mentions go to Tenjou Tenge, Mirai Nikki, and Ergo Proxy.

To be honest, I can't just choose one for this answer, though I'm going to be extremely obvious and say that Parqadigm from Kokoro Connect is one of my favorites -- it fits the series so well, and the song is ridiculously cute. I also did enjoy Daze from Mekakucity Actors and the IA cover for it is also pretty damn amazing. But then again, I really enjoy the songs from JIN, they're ridiculously good, haha...

Also, I am really loving ignite from Sword Art Online II and even though I did like the Aincrad arc and just skipped ALO, I'm really loving SAO II so far, DON'T JUDGE ME I WAS WATCHING IT FOR MIYUKI SAWASHIRO

I also enjoyed both Nisekoi openings, Click and STEP both sung by ClariS. And speaking of ClariS, who can ever forget Connect from Puella Magi Madoka Magica?

ALSO I guess I have a story -- actually, stories -- to tell as well, since I just remembered it. So back in middle school, there was a "talent show", to say the least, and I honestly couldn't decide what song to sing at the time, so I was going through my list of songs and I decided to sing Naraku no Hana from Higurashi no Naku Koro ni. But since I knew that everyone who saw the talent show would judge me and I was a little scared of that, I decided to do an English cover and it wasn't complete shit, to be honest, but looking back at it, my singing was pretty shitty, even though the English cover lyrics I did for it were decent.

Also a few years back me and my fiance kind of did a pretty embarrassing cover - at least, in my opinion of High Touch! from Pokemon and I was doing Dawn and he was doing Ash and I WAS LIKE WHY MY VOICE DOESN'T GO THAT HIGH so i was sobbing the whole time...

and he still has it on his ipod

I have a love/hate relationships with OPs because some of them are earworms and I'd just like to get them out of my head, please and thank you-- but it never works.

Riiiight now I have Hamatora's and Aldnoah's stuck!

But I really love Angel's Beats, sola's, Rental Magica's, Yu-Gi-Oh's Overlap and pretty much all the YGO DM openings... AND A LOT MORE I'm sure.

I'm also amazed by all the SnK spinoffs!

i just started watching aldnoah and THE ENTIRE SOUNDTRACK FOR THAT IS SOOOO GOOD holy shit. i love the op and even the music in the show i'm like

The anime opening I've had the most fun with ever is Baccano!'s. It's so great, full of the energy and chaos and silliness that the show has and picking up some very touching moments too. Definitely makes you want to know what the commotion is all about.

In that same vein I love the Mushishi opening for being chill and beautiful - like the show it represents. The impression that comes with it is a gentle walk through the trees and I can't think of a better way to describe Ginko's mood about almost everything.

I think the opening I still love and would never skip has to be Toward the Terra OP2 - Jet Boy Jet Girl. It encapsules the second half of the anime very well, even if that's "there's a lot of homo misunderstandings and then they fight".

My absolute number one favorite is Period from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood. Every time I watch BH, I wait for the arc with that op and Shunkan Sentimental ED to start because they're amazing songs and I've loved them ever since I heard them for the first time. Then again, I love all ops from both FMA animes even though I'm not a fan of the 2003 anime.

Darker Than Black has amazing openings, 1 & 2, I also love D.N. Angel's Byakuya ~True Light~ to bits and pieces and of course, there's also Connect from Madoka (my favorite song for my alarm clock XD) aaaand Kibou Ni Tsuite from AKB0048!♥

Ohhh, and not a fan of Skip Beat series despite watching the anime and trying to read the manga ( which didn't go well), but I adore its opening: Dream Star

And I almost forgot the two versions of the old Sailor Moon OP Moonlight Densetsu by Dali and Moon Lips - I don't even know which one I like more nowadays, they're both amazing if you ask me. Aaaaand there's also the opening of Rose of Versailles

The opening of Mekakucity Actors, daze, became my favorite part of the entire anime adaption, lmao. I love it. Can't forget the Gatchaman Crowds opening, either. It makes me feel very motivated for some reason and I listen to it quite a lot!

one of the older ones I've loved is (let's just say I love all of FMA 2003's OPs and leave it at that) Daybreak's Bell, the first OP for Gundam 00, but I really love the Ash Like Snow too? sob, they're both so good. (just listening to them makes me want to rewatch the series...)

OH can't forget Bleach OPs since I was super into it for a while there: Alones (because apparently After Dark AND Shoujo S keep getting taken down from youtube so I can't find a link that isn't flipped or slightly sped up or off-pitch)

and obligatory YGO mentions:

from GX, Precious Time, Glory Days
from 5D's, it's a tie between Last Train and Believe in Nexus
from ZEXAL, another tie, sob. between Braving and Dualism of Mirrors
and there's only one OP for Arc-V so far and even if I'm still meh about the series itself for now, Believe x Believe is a damn good OP

unravel from tokyo ghoul is possibly my absolute favorite atm! it does a good job catching the overall vibe of the series without getting too... uh. gorey, as tokyo ghoul often gets.

crowds from gatchaman crowds and synchrogazer from senki zesshou symphogear (which isn't on yt except in flipped/sped up/off-pitch versions)!

well SOMEONE already guessed what my absolute favorite would be, which is Tank from Cowboy Bebop. however here are some runner ups for my favorites:

- Over Soul from Shaman King because it just sounds awesome and nostalgic
- GO!!! aka WE ARE FIGHTING DREAMERS from Naruto. Before the attack on titan OP came out this was my go-to pump-up anime jam.
- Hologram, the second OP from FMA Brotherhood. For some reason this song just stuck with me because it just sounds really hopeful and determined! and I have a lot of feelings about FMA so hearing it brings about a resurgence of all that
- both Uragiri no Yuuyake and Complication from Durarara!!! the first one has a kickass feel to it, while the second one is just something that I like to sing dramatically in my car
- and finally Futatsu no Kodou to Akai Tsumi from Vampire Knight which.... I didn't really watch or finish reading but the OP is eerie and cool!!
