It looks like Inuyasha is causing some trouble for poor Ranma... Well, while they get it sorted out, can you help me? I'm thinking of this old series but I can't remember its name...

Throwback Thursday (or #tbt) commemorates the anime, manga, and games of yore. (Yore = original debut in 2001 or earlier.) Based on the provided clue, can you tell me the title of what I'm thinking of and its original Japanese release year? I'll give you 3 random single cards for your trouble!
An aristocratic French girl has been raised as a man in order to succeed her father in his line of work. Proud though she is of her stature and duty, she becomes torn between loyalty to her class and the increasingly apparent struggles of the impoverished and oppressed lower class. In between all of this and the growing turmoil of the French Revolution, her relationship with her best friend blossoms into love.

This round will end September 18th at 6:00PM EST. Closed!

Last round's answer: Inuyasha, released in 1996.
